Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Chennai Celebrates Three Years of National Education Policy (NEP) -2020

Chennai: The Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Chennai on Wednesday commemorated the 3rd anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) and present the exemplary progress made in its implementation.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Chennai on Wednesday commemorated the 3rd anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) and present the exemplary progress made in its implementation.

The 3rd anniversary of NEP 2020 was celebrated in Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT chennai on 26th July 2023 and a press meet was arranged with the singing of the State Anthem 'Tamil Thai Vazhthu'. Dr M Manickasamy, Principal, KV IIT Chennai welcomed the gathering.

Officials from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan& CBSE, Educationalists, stakeholders, Parents and students and the members of the Print and the digital media attended the program.

Shri D Manivannan, Deputy Commissioner, KVS RO Chennai briefed the gathering on the role of the KendriyaVidyalayas in the Chennai District and the other stakeholders in the implementation of NEP 2020. He stated that KVS is a forerunner in the implementation of the NEP 2020, which is 'Public Participatory Policy'.

Shri D Manivannan gave a quick briefing on the genesis of the KVS, which promotes Indianness among the children and their holistic development. While talking about the practices in KVS for the implementation of NEP 2020, Shri D Manivannan highlighted that in alignment with the recommendation of NEP 2020, the age of admission in Class I was revised to 6+ in KVS from 2022-23.

Shri D Manivannan explained how KVS has laid emphasis on Tracking of students in the attainment of Lakshyas by introducing the web application PIMS. He threw light on the introduction of Balvatika classes and Vidya Pravesh, a 3 month play-based school preparation module for Grade I.

Shri D Manivannan also said that 33 schools across the KVS Chennai Region function as Skill Hubs. He also added that KVS values the role of parents as a vital component in the development and growth of the children. To cater to the pedagogical shift, teachers are equipped through various courses in the PM e-VIDYA and NISHTHA besides the short-term workshops and In-service training.

Shri D Manivannan also said that KVS, Chennai is proud to have 22 ATAL Tinkering Labs across the region. He opined that Vidyanjali is one of the best initiatives to encourage community participation.

Shri Dinesh Ram, Regional Officer, CBSE RO Chennai, in his address, explained how CBSE has taken all efforts to sensitize the teachers to achieve the mandates of the NEP by recognising, identifying and fostering the unique capabilities of the students by sensitizing teachers. He focused on the role of CBSE in achieving the Vision of NEP 2020 through the emphasis on conceptual understanding rather than rote learning.

Shri Dinesh Ram also explained schemes like Pm Shri, PARAKH, Integration of Vocal Education, Skills subject aids in the effectiveness of the policy. He expressed how teachers and parents have whole-heartedly welcomed the policy and also threw light on the month long activities from 29/07/2023 to 28/08/2023 planned will bring wide publicity to all the stakeholders. The press conference ended on a successful note.

Other components like ‘Vidya Pravesh’, digital infrastructure (DIKSHA) portal, e-Vidya channels (Swayam Prabha), ATAL Tinkering Lab, Pedagogical Shift & Training to Teachers, National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF FS), Re-alignment of admission age & Skill subject were also highlighted.
